Cowork FAQ

What is coworking?

Coworking is the practice of sharing access to a workspace with others so that you can enjoy the advantages of a well-appointed workspace without having to incur the costs all on your own. It is especially well-suited to part-time and itinerant workers, or those who mostly work from home.

What is a hot desk?

Fireweed Hub offers hot desks, which are desks or similar workspaces equipped with internet access, and available for temporary use by various people according to their needs.

Can I rent a permanent desk?

Due to limited size and multi-purpose nature of the Fireweed Hub we are not able to offer permanent desks.

When can I use the space?

Cowork hours are from 7 a.m. to 4:30 pm, 365 days a year, with extended hours by arrangement. We expect to have some drop-in hours available one or two days a week. Those hours will be posted on our public events page.

Can I hold a meeting?

Yes! Fireweed fills a niche in the community, with Mondays and Tuesdays prioritizing hassle-free meetings for community groups from after 4:30 pm. We rent out our meeting room in blocks of 2-8 hours, priced accordingly and affordably. A MeetingOwl® is available in conjunction with a video projector as a plug-and-play solution for those holding hybrid meetings (some attendees coming in person, some by video link). For meetings between two people, either the Zoom Room or a Flex Desk might be suitable depending on the level of privacy desired.

Does my group need insurance?

We do not require cowork clients or groups to carry their own insurance.

Can I bring a friend?

Your Flex Desk day pass covers your use only, but we believe in common sense, so if you have have someone stopping by briefly that’s fine. If they’re going to stay and do work, please ensure that they pay for their own use.

Can I bring my kids to work?

Our cowork facilities are not intended to accommodate children. However, if you discover that you are the only user in the space and/or if a family emergency transpires, this policy is flexible for short durations.

How do I book space?

You will need to contact our Facility Manager. Bookings cannot be accepted until we have received our final occupancy permit and are legally able to operate.

How do I access the space?

Once you have booked your time(s) you will be given the current combination to the south (back) door. We ask that the front door facing Main Street be left locked unless a public-facing event is taking place.

What are the payment options?

We will invoice you for payment via Square® invoicing. You can then pay by cash, cheque, Interac® eTransfer, debit card or credit card. If you prefer to avoid online payment, you can make cash or debit payments or in-person credit card payments at Fireweed by arrangement. Cheques can be be mailed to: Silverton Cowork Society, Box 6, New Denver, BC, V0G 1S0.
