Air quality monitoring

Loading PurpleAir Widget…

Fireweed now hosts real-time air quality monitoring for the local area. The PurpleAir sensor in New Denver will provide a much more accurate measure of local air quality than interpolations made from sensors in larger centres like Castlegar that are in entirely different valleys.

The widget shown here gives a snapshot of the current reading. The PurpleAir Map shows data over time and allows comparisons with other citizen-science sensors in the area and beyond, including the one installed at the Nakusp library. Temperature, humidity and other data are also available by tweaking the settings on the map.

Accurate local data during fire season will help people be aware of any risks and will allow tourists to make informed decisions about travel plans.
